Best Off-Road Caravans
Under $80,000

Off-road and hybrid ranges with a published price under $80,000.
Ranked on payload, because it is the capability figure every one of them publishes.

How this list is built

As of July 2026, 14 ranges here are full off-road, semi off-road or hybrid, with a published price under $80,000 and both an ATM and a tare.

They are ranked on payload, which is ATM minus tare. That is the weight of water, gas, food, tools and gear you can legally load, and it is what decides how long you can stay out. We use it because it is the one capability figure every one of these vans states.

Common Questions

What is the best off-road caravan under $80,000 in Australia?

The New Age Caravans Manta Ray S.O leads on payload: 1,100kg, from $79,990, on a 3,000kg ATM. Payload is ATM minus tare, so it is the weight of water, gas, food, tools and gear you can legally load, and it is the capability figure that decides how long you can stay out. We rank on it rather than on a star rating because it is the one capability number every one of these vans states. The list is full off-road, semi off-road or hybrid, priced under $80,000, with a published ATM and tare so the payload is a real figure rather than an estimate.

How many off-road caravans are there under $80,000?

There are 14, as of July 2026. Off-road running gear, chassis work and the power and water systems that go with remote travel all cost money, so a new van at this budget is doing it lean somewhere, and the spec chips on each card are where you find out where.

Can you get a genuine off-road caravan for under $80,000?

New, yes, and you are choosing on specifics rather than on shortlists. The ranges here start at $39,990 and every one of them publishes its ATM and tare, so you can check the numbers against your car before you go near a yard. What you give up at this budget is usually capacity rather than capability: smaller water tanks, less solar and battery, and a payload that a full load of water eats into fast. Work out what you need to carry first, then see which of these covers it.

What if a van here does not show a water or solar figure?

Spec sheets do not all list water and solar. Where a figure is not shown, treat it as unconfirmed rather than zero, ask the dealer for it in writing, and check it against the compliance plate. On a page about how far a van can take you off-grid, a guessed number would be worse than none.

Is a semi off-road caravan enough, or do I need full off-road?

It depends on the roads rather than the badge. Semi off-road is built for maintained dirt and gravel: station tracks, national park access roads, the run into most free camps. Full off-road adds the chassis, suspension and protection meant for sustained corrugations and genuinely remote work. Buying more capability than your trips need costs you weight and money, and buying less costs you repairs. Both types are on this page with their type marked on every card so you can filter by what you will actually drive on.

What tow vehicle do I need for these caravans?

Your car's braked towing capacity has to cover the van's ATM, and that is only the first check. The ball weight comes out of your car's payload along with the passengers and everything in the boot, and your GCM caps what the car and van can weigh together. The ATMs here run from 1,080kg to 3,500kg. We never say a specific car can tow a specific van, because it depends on how you load both. Run your exact vehicle through the tow calculator instead.
