Spec sheets do not all list water and solar. Where a figure is not shown, treat it as unconfirmed rather than zero, ask the dealer for it in writing, and check it against the compliance plate. On a page about how far a van can take you off-grid, a guessed number would be worse than none.
Is a semi off-road caravan enough, or do I need full off-road?
It depends on the roads rather than the badge. Semi off-road is built for maintained dirt and gravel: station tracks, national park access roads, the run into most free camps. Full off-road adds the chassis, suspension and protection meant for sustained corrugations and genuinely remote work. Buying more capability than your trips need costs you weight and money, and buying less costs you repairs. What tow vehicle do I need for these caravans?
Your car's braked towing capacity has to cover the van's ATM, and that is only the first check. The ball weight comes out of your car's payload along with the passengers and everything in the boot, and your GCM caps what the car and van can weigh together.
