What luxury actually means here
Luxury in a caravan is capability, not decoration
Ask ten buyers what makes a caravan luxurious and you will get ten answers about leather and stone benchtops. Look at what the money is actually spent on in this bracket and a different picture shows up.
Most of it goes into three things. The first is the structure: heavier chassis and independent suspension rated for corrugations, plus composite or fully welded bodies built to hold together over years of touring rather than a fortnight a year.
The second is independence. The vans at this end carry the biggest solar arrays, the biggest lithium banks and the biggest water tanks you will find, because the whole point is staying put somewhere good without a power lead.
The third is what is already fitted. Cheaper vans reach a similar list price once you tick the options, so the honest comparison is not sticker against sticker, it is what each one includes before you start adding.

Common Questions
How much do luxury caravans cost in Australia?
75 caravan ranges on Caravan Compare publish a starting price over $120,000, running from $120,250 up to $385,000. Those are the makers' own starting prices for the base build, before options, delivery and on-road costs. Figures are the manufacturers' own published specifications.
What type of caravan does over $120,000 get you?
Full Off-Road vans are the biggest group in this bracket, with 39 of the 75 ranges. The full spread is: full off-road (39), hybrid (12), semi off-road (11), camper trailer (5), motorhome (4), on-road tourer (4). 14 of them sleep four or more, so families aren't locked out of this price point.
Do these prices include on-road costs and options?
No. Every price shown is the manufacturer's published starting price for the base spec, excluding government charges, delivery and options. A realistic drive-away figure is usually several thousand dollars higher, and popular options packs can add a lot more. Treat the numbers here as a like-for-like way to compare brands, then confirm a drive-away quote before you commit.
Can a normal SUV or ute tow a caravan in this bracket?
It depends on the van. Plenty here come in at 2,500kg ATM or under, which many mid-size SUVs and utes handle, and the heavier ones need a vehicle rated to 3,000kg or more, with your car's GCM able to cut that further. Our free tow calculator does the legal arithmetic against your exact vehicle.
Why isn't every caravan on the market listed here?
These budget pages rank on published starting prices, so a range appears once its maker states a from-price. Some ranges are price-on-application instead, and the way to price those is a dealer quote rather than a list like this.
What counts as a luxury caravan in Australia?
There is no official definition, so we use a price line rather than a marketing one: every van on this page publishes a starting price over $120,000. In practice that buys a heavier chassis and independent suspension, a bigger solar and battery system, larger water tanks, and a much longer list of gear fitted as standard rather than optioned in.
Are luxury caravans harder to tow?
Usually, yes. The build that makes them comfortable also makes them heavy, and plenty of vans in this bracket publish an ATM of 3,500kg or more, which is at or beyond the towing limit of most dual-cab utes and mid-size four-wheel drives. Ball weight and your car's gross combination mass often bind before the tow rating does. Run your exact car and van through our tow calculator before you shortlist anything.
Do luxury caravans hold their value better?
Resale depends far more on brand demand, condition and how well the van was looked after than on what it cost new. A dearer van does not depreciate at a slower percentage just because it is dearer, and the dollar figure it loses is larger. Our depreciation guide sets out what the numbers actually look like year by year.
Is it worth paying more for a full off-road build if we stick to bitumen?
If your touring is sealed roads and caravan parks, the off-road running gear is weight and cost you carry without using. The parts of a premium build that still earn their keep on bitumen are the off-grid systems, the insulation and the standard inclusions. Buy for the trips you actually take, not the ones in the brochure.
