ST5 Supertourer

The Patriot Campers ST5 Supertourer is a 5.2 metre off-road camper trailer with an inside shower and composting toilet, priced from $168,900. Patriot builds each one by hand on the Gold Coast in Queensland, fitted with the options the buyer chooses. It has 800 watts of solar and 460 amp-hours of lithium batteries as standard.

Who does it sleep?

The main bed has a 100 millimetre pocket-spring mattress that measures 2,030 by 1,520 millimetres. An optional overhead kids bunk, 1,575 by 670 millimetres, takes a third family member.

Inside

The bathroom has a composting toilet, a ceramic sink and non-slip flooring. A patented double floor folds over the toilet to make a sealed shower floor, so the toilet stays dry while you shower. Warm dimmable lights run through the cabin, and carpet or woven vinyl mats are an option.

Kitchen and awning

A 2,300 watt induction cooktop is standard. The fridge slide takes a dual-zone fridge of up to 95 litres, from Dometic or myCOOLMAN, as an option. A pantry drawer slides out beside the fridge.

A one-touch electric Fiamma awning is standard. It runs the length of the trailer and reaches 2.5 metres past the kitchen. A freestanding 270 degree awning with poles is the optional alternative.

Storage

• Total: 2,150 litres, as Patriot lists it.
• Storage locker: 645 litres, with an optional slideout.
• Front locker: 110 litres, which Patriot calls the man cave, for tools and chainsaws.
• Other compartments: seven more around the trailer.
• Roof: an Exorack rated to 120kg, with a second Exorack on the rear hatch.
• Service locker: every fuse and serviceable part behind one door, with a schematic of the whole trailer printed inside it.

Heating and cooling

Truma diesel heating warms the cabin and heats water for the sink and the outside shower. Underbody heating helps protect the trailer in sub-zero temperatures. Air conditioning is an option and runs from the same control panel.

Power and water

• Solar: four 200 watt Redarc panels, 800 watts in total.
• Batteries: two 230 amp-hour lithium batteries, with one or two more as an option.
• Fresh water: a 150 litre tank and a 40 litre tank.
• Grey water: a 45 litre tank.
• Internet: an optional Starlink Mini mount on the roof rack, wired into the Redarc system.

Chassis and off-road gear

• Suspension: Patriot's Trinamic independent design, with monotube shock absorbers.
• Bearings: sealed automotive bearings, which Patriot says major auto parts retailers stock.
• Brakes: 285 millimetre discs.
• Wheels: 17 inch, with 285/70R17 tyres and a matching spare. Patriot tunes the suspension for 33 and 35 inch tyres.
• Body: composite panels with structural aluminium.
• Departure angle: 20 degrees.
• Warranty: five years, limited, on the chassis and structural components of every Patriot camper.

Optional extras

Patriot says options change the final cost.

• Roof: a boat loader with rollers, tie-downs and a powered winch, and extra Exobars.
• Outdoors: a BBQ swing-away with a Weber Q1000, a wood rack, and a Maxtrax mount with two boards.
• Inside: a 24 inch TV and a GME two-way radio.

How big is it?

• Length: 5.2 metres.
• Width: 2.1 metres.
• Height: 2.2 metres.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 2,600kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 1,850kg, its empty weight as built.
• Payload: 750kg for water and gear. Full fresh water tanks use about 190kg of it.
• Ball weight: 152kg, which Patriot calls drawbar weight.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 2,600kg.
