X2 Tourer

The Patriot Campers X2 Tourer is a 3.7 metre off-road camper trailer with a hard-shell rooftop tent that sleeps one or two, priced from $50,900. Patriot builds it on the Gold Coast in Queensland. It has a dry tare of 850kg, which Patriot says may vary.

Sleeping and setting up

Patriot builds the A-frame hard-shell tent into the body and makes its lid in-house. Inside is a 1,880 by 1,310 millimetre mattress, with an LED light, two USB charging outlets and three large windows. You climb up by a ladder built into the drawbar, or by a detachable side ladder that stows at the rear. You can adjust the lights with buttons or from Patriot's app.

Kitchen and awning

The L-shaped kitchen has a Dometic twin-burner gas stove and grill, a stainless steel sink and a scratch-resistant stainless bench. Plates and cutlery sit in drawers, and the fridge slide takes a 75 litre fridge, sold as an option.

Patriot designs the PCOR awning for low weight and rates it at 12.25 metres of coverage with UPF 50+ sun protection. It has built-in poles and guy ropes, and LED lights run along it.

Chassis and off-road gear

• Chassis: hot-dipped galvanised Rigilite steel, extended as standard, with a space-saver spare underneath.
• Body: composite panels bonded to sheet metal, with no welding, in concrete grey decals.
• Suspension: X-Cruise coil suspension, with an airbag upgrade as an option.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric drums.
• Wheels: 17 inch steel wheels with 33 inch mud-terrain tyres.
• Recovery points: two, each rated to 800kg.
• Departure angle: 36 degrees.
• Warranty: five years, limited, on the chassis and structural components of every Patriot camper.

Power and water

• Battery: one 100 amp-hour lithium battery, run by a Redarc Rogue system with a Redvision display and app control.
• Solar: two 120 watt roof panels, 240 watts in total.
• Charging: from solar, from the tow vehicle, or from mains power through the supplied 240 to 12 volt charger.
• Water: one 150 litre tank.
• Gas: holders for two 4.5kg bottles.
• USB: charging ports in the kitchen and at the rear.

Optional extras

Patriot says options change the final cost.

• Room: a multi-room attachment that fixes to the tent in minutes, for dining or a swag.
• Power: a second 100 amp-hour lithium battery, and a 1,200 watt RS3 inverter with movable power outlets.
• Hot water and heat: a gas hot water system with a shower rose, or diesel hot water with a tent heater.
• Storage: a slide-out rear drawer and a carpet kit for the storage compartments.
• Kitchen: a Dometic CFX75 fridge kit, a myCOOLMAN 78 litre dual-zone fridge, or a BBQ swing-away in the front box.
• Outdoors: awning wind walls, awning-to-kitchen infill panels, PCOR Maxtrax with roof mounts, and PCOR 261 rims.

How big is it?

• Length: 3.7 metres.
• Width: 1.86 metres.
• Height: 1.7 metres.
• Storage: 2,050 litres, as Patriot lists it.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 1,600kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 850kg, its empty weight as built. Patriot says this figure may vary.
• Payload: 750kg for water, gas and gear. A full water tank uses about 150kg of it.
• Ball weight: 140kg, which Patriot calls drawbar weight.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 1,600kg.
