Grand Slide

The SUV Grand Slide is a 5.7 metre off-road camper trailer that sleeps four to six, thanks to a double bed that slides out. SUV Caravans calls it its largest camper trailer, built for bigger families and people who want more room. It keeps the king bed and convertible club lounge of the Grand.

Who does it sleep?

• King bed: the main bed, with a privacy screen.
• Slide-out double: the extra bed for four to six.
• Club lounge: converts to another bed.

At camp

SUV Caravans says the Air Annex is quick and easy to set up, and it comes with side walls, a floor and a draft skirt. An external Air Ensuite and a touring awning are standard too. The tent is mould-resistant canvas with a tropical roof and aluminium poles. Inside you get an extra-high roof, two storage drawers, midge-proof fly screens and a positive pressure system.

Kitchen

A swing kitchen carries the four-burner gas stove, with pantry drawers, a stainless steel fold-down bench and a sink with a drying rack.

Chassis and running gear

• Engineering: locally engineered and certified chassis, drawbar and suspension, SUV Caravans says.
• Chassis: fully galvanised.
• Suspension: Series 4 recovery with galvanised swing arms, twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
• Wheels: 16 inch alloys, all-terrain tyres (265/75R16), and two spares underneath.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric, with a breakaway system.
• Storage: a front-mounted box, two jerry can holders and a rear bike or hitch receiver.

Power and water

• Batteries: dual lithium.
• Charging: a Renogy DC-DC charger and a smart charger.
• Plugs: three Anderson plugs and 12 volt and USB outlets, inside and out.
• Water: two 100 litre tanks plus 80 litres of extra storage, about 280 litres, monitored.
• Gas: two 4kg bottle holders.

Optional extras

• Air-con: 10,000 BTU (British thermal unit) reverse-cycle air conditioning.
• Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer.
• Generator: a Trakmate generator.
• Solar: 200 watt flexible panels, and a lithium battery upgrade.
• Hot water: a hot water system kit with a shower head.
• Toilet: a portable toilet.
• Other: Alko or DO35 hitch upgrades, a camper cover and a spare bolt-on stub axle.

What will tow it?

It needs a car with a braked towing capacity of at least 2,500kg to tow it fully loaded.

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 2,500kg, its fully loaded limit.
• Tare: about 1,990kg, empty as built.
• GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,293kg, the most it can weigh on its axles.
• Payload: 510kg for water, gas and gear. Full water storage takes about 280kg of that.

Warranty and where to buy

SUV Caravans gives new camper trailers a 12-month warranty from delivery for defects in material and workmanship. The chassis has an extra 5-year fatigue warranty from 2025 onwards. Cover applies to new units only and is non-transferable. Showrooms are in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville, and freight delivery is available on request.
