X1 GEN2

The Patriot Campers X1 GEN2 is a 3.7 metre off-road camper trailer with a remote-controlled hard roof, priced from $74,900. Patriot builds it on the Gold Coast in Queensland as a family camper. Adults sleep on a queen-sized bed under the roof, and an optional kids room adds bunks for up to four children.

Who does it sleep?

• Adults: a gel-top pocket spring mattress, 1,916 by 1,570 millimetres, on a slide-out bed base.
• Children: up to four in bunks in the optional kids room, which measures 1.6 by 2.2 metres and stands 2.2 metres high.
• Change room: part of the tent, with space for changing, play or extra sleeping.

Setting up

The hard roof opens and closes at the press of a button. The bed base slides out with no lifting, and a Tentstep staircase leads up to the bedroom. The CS3 tent has a main cabin and a change room, with removable zip floors and midge-proof mesh windows.

Kitchen and awning

The L-shaped kitchen has a Dometic twin-burner gas stove and grill, a stainless steel sink and a pop-up bench above the sink. Patriot says the bench space is 30% larger than on earlier X1 models. Drawers hold plates and cutlery, and a towel rack sits under the sink. A stainless steel slide takes a 75 litre Dometic CFX3 fridge, sold as an option.

A heavy-duty canvas awning carries two dimmable lights that you adjust from Patriot's app. LED lights sit under each corner of the body.

Chassis and off-road gear

• Chassis: hot-dipped galvanised Rigilite steel, extended as standard, with a space-saver spare underneath.
• Body: Patriot's weldless Aerojoin construction, in white.
• Suspension: X-Cruise dual-shock airbag suspension rated at 1.6 tonnes, which also levels the trailer.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric drums.
• Wheels: 17 inch PCOR wheels with 33 inch mud-terrain tyres.
• Recovery points: two, each rated to 800kg.
• Departure angle: 36 degrees.
• Warranty: five years, limited, on the chassis and structural components of every Patriot camper.

Power and water

• Batteries: two 150 amp-hour AGM or gel batteries, run by a Redarc Rogue battery management system.
• Solar: a fixed 200 watt Redarc panel.
• Charging: from the tow vehicle through an Anderson plug, or from 240 volt shore power.
• Water: one 150 litre tank with a filter.
• Gas: holders for two 4.5kg bottles.

Optional extras

Patriot says options change the final cost.

• Power: two 100 amp-hour HELM lithium batteries, and a 1,200 or 2,000 watt RS3 inverter with movable power outlets.
• Hot water and heat: a gas hot water system with a shower rose, or diesel hot water with a tent heater.
• Fridge: a Dometic CFX75 fridge kit, or a myCOOLMAN 78 litre dual-zone fridge.
• Outdoors: a BBQ swing-away in the front box, awning wind walls and tent-to-awning sail kits.
• Recovery: a Molle panel with Maxtrax mounts, and a tyre inflation kit.
• Colour: graphite, with black PCOR wheels.

How big is it?

• Length: 3.7 metres.
• Width: 1.86 metres.
• Height: 1.96 metres.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 1,600kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 1,130kg, its empty weight as built.
• Payload: 470kg for water, gas and gear. A full water tank uses about 150kg of it.
• Ball weight: 140kg, which Patriot calls drawbar weight.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 1,600kg.
