Grand

The SUV Grand is a 5.7 metre off-road camper trailer that sleeps two to four. It has a king bed, and the club lounge converts to a second bed. An Air Annex and an external Air Ensuite come standard, and it carries two spare wheels underneath.

Who does it sleep?

The main bed is a king with an innerspring mattress and a privacy screen. The club lounge converts to an extra bed for the kids or guests.

Setting up camp

The Air Annex includes side walls, a floor and a draft skirt, and SUV Caravans says it is quick to set up. A touring awning and an external Air Ensuite are also included. The canvas is mould-resistant, under a tropical roof on aluminium tent poles. It also has a positive pressure system, midge-proof fly screens and a double lid seal. Inside there is an extra-high roof, four storage drawers and LED lights with a dimmer.

Kitchen

The swing kitchen has a four-burner gas stove, pantry drawers and a stainless steel fold-down bench. It also has a sink with a drying rack.

Chassis and running gear

SUV Caravans says the design draws on more than 13 years of development and real-world testing.

• Chassis: fully galvanised, and locally engineered and certified, SUV Caravans says.
• Suspension: Series 4 recovery suspension with galvanised swing arms, twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
• Wheels: 16 inch alloys with all-terrain tyres (265/75R16).
• Spares: two spare wheels, mounted underneath.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
• Recovery: two rear recovery points.
• Carrying: a front storage box, two jerry can holders and a rear bike or hitch receiver.

Power and water

• Batteries: dual lithium batteries.
• Charging: a Renogy DC-DC charger and a smart charger.
• Plugs: three Anderson plugs, plus 12 volt and USB outlets inside and out.
• Water: two 100 litre tanks and 80 litres of extra storage, about 280 litres in all, with monitoring.
• Gas: holders for two 4kg bottles.

Optional extras

• Air-con: a 10,000 BTU (British thermal unit) reverse-cycle air conditioner.
• Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer.
• Solar and power: 200 watt flexible solar panels, a lithium battery upgrade and a Trakmate generator.
• Hot water: a hot water system kit with a shower head, or a gas hot water kit.
• Toilet: a portable toilet.
• Hitch: Alko or DO35 hitch upgrades.
• Other: a camper cover and a spare bolt-on stub axle.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 2,500kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: about 1,850kg, its empty weight as built.
• GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,300kg, the most it can weigh on its axles.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 2,500kg. SUV Caravans treats every weight it lists as approximate.

Warranty and where to buy

New SUV camper trailers carry a 12-month warranty from delivery on defects in material and workmanship. From 2025 onwards the chassis also has a 5-year fatigue warranty, for new units only and non-transferable. SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. Pickup at a showroom is its recommended option, with freight delivery on request.
