About the Island 16 Family
The Island 16 Family is a 6.7 metre caravan for four, with an island queen bed for the parents and full-size bunks for the kids. Each bunk has its own window, fan and reading light. SUV Caravans says it was purpose-built for Queensland families.
Who does it sleep?
- Parents: a queen island bed with an innerspring mattress and walk-around access.
- Kids: two full-size bunk beds, each 700 x 1900mm.
Bathroom
The family ensuite has the shower and the toilet in separate rooms. A wall-mounted washing machine is standard.
Inside
An inside coffee nook has a 157 litre upright fridge freezer, a microwave, a sink and a rangehood. An induction cooktop is also standard inside. The seating has a removable table, and storage runs to cupboards and hanging space. Bedside tables have storage drawers. Roof-mounted reverse-cycle air conditioning and 12 volt fans handle the temperature.
Outdoor kitchen
The stainless steel outside kitchen swings out 90 degrees, with a four-burner gas stove and a wind guard. Pantry drawers and a stainless steel fold-down bench sit with it, and a pantry slide suits a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer. A full-length electric roll-out awning covers the area.
Chassis and running gear
- Chassis: fully galvanised, with galvanised suspension arms, approved by an Australian engineer.
- Suspension: SUV's Series 4 Recovery Suspension with twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
- Wheels: alloys with all-terrain tyres, and a spare underneath.
- Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
- Recovery: two rear recovery points and a spare bolt-on stub axle.
- Body: XPS high-density foam walls on a honeycomb floor.
- Hitch: an Alko hitch to suit a 50mm ball.
Power and water
- Batteries: 628 amp hours of lithium batteries.
- Solar: 800 watts of roof-mounted panels.
- Inverter: a 3000 watt Renogy inverter.
- Charging: a Renogy DC-DC charger with a built-in solar charge controller.
- Fresh water: two tanks, about 200 litres in total, plus a mains water connection.
- Grey water: a 70 litre tank, with fresh and grey water monitoring.
- Gas and hot water: holders for two 4kg gas bottles, and an integrated gas hot water system.

- Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer for the pantry slide.
- Annexe: an enclosable annexe with a floor, walls, skirt and anti-flapper kit.
- Hitch: a DO35 off-road hitch.

What will tow it?
- ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 3,000kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
- Tare: 2,550kg, its empty weight as built.
- GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,780kg, the most its axles can carry when hitched.
- Payload: 450kg for water, gas and gear. Full water tanks use about 200kg of it.
To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 3,000kg. SUV Caravans lists its weights as approximate.

SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. It recommends collecting from a dealership, so you get a full handover. Freight delivery is available on request.
Warranty
- Whole van: 12 months from delivery, on defects in material and workmanship.
- Chassis: a 5-year fatigue warranty, on vans from 2025 onwards.
- Cover: new vans only.
