About the Island 16
The Island 16 is a 6.7 metre caravan that sleeps two or three, built around a walk-around island queen bed. Its ensuite has a separate shower and toilet, plus a washing machine. SUV Caravans says it has 17 feet of usable internal space.
Who does it sleep?
The main bed is a queen island bed with an innerspring mattress, with bedside tables either side. SUV Caravans lists it as sleeping two or three, for couples and families.
Inside
An inside coffee nook holds a 157 litre upright fridge freezer, a microwave and a sink. It also has an induction cooktop, a rangehood and storage drawers. The seating comes as cafe seating or a bench seat, your choice. Roof-mounted reverse-cycle air conditioning and 12 volt fans are standard. Windows have privacy glass and midge-proof fly screens.
Outdoor kitchen
The stainless steel outside kitchen swings out 90 degrees, with a four-burner gas stove and a wind guard. Pantry drawers and a fold-down bench connect to it, and a pantry slide suits a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer. A full-length electric roll-out awning covers the area.
Chassis and running gear
- Chassis: fully galvanised, with galvanised suspension arms, approved by an Australian engineer.
- Suspension: SUV's Series 4 Recovery Suspension with twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
- Wheels: alloys with all-terrain tyres, and a spare underneath.

- Recovery: two rear recovery points and a spare bolt-on stub axle.
- Body: XPS high-density foam walls on a honeycomb floor.

- Grey water: a 70 litre tank, with fresh and grey water monitoring.
- Gas and hot water: holders for two 4kg gas bottles, and an integrated gas hot water system.

- Annexe: an enclosable annexe with a floor, walls, skirt and anti-flapper kit.

- Tare: 2,550kg, its empty weight as built.
- GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,780kg, the most its axles can carry when hitched.
- Payload: 450kg for water, gas and gear. Full water tanks use about 180kg of it.
To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 3,000kg. SUV Caravans lists its weights as approximate.

SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. It recommends collecting from a dealership, so you get a full handover. Freight delivery is available on request.
