GR17.6

The SUV Caravans GR17.6 is a 7.0 metre touring caravan that sleeps two to three. It sits on twin shocks and heavy-duty springs with an Alko hitch, and you choose café seating or an L-shaped lounge. SUV Caravans says it suits couples planning relaxed road trips across Australia.

Who does it sleep?

The main bed is a queen island bed with an innerspring mattress, so you can walk around both sides. SUV Caravans rates it at two to three berths, for couples and families.

Inside

The kitchenette has a sink, an induction cooktop, a microwave and a rangehood. A 157 litre upright fridge freezer sits inside, with pantry drawers. The ensuite has separate toilet and shower rooms and a wall-mounted washing machine. Roof-mounted air conditioning and 12 volt fans are standard. Storage includes bedside drawers, cupboards, hanging space and shelves in the ensuite.

Outdoor kitchen

The outside kitchen swings around 90 degrees and has a four-burner gas stove with a windguard. A fridge drawer sits alongside it. The full-length electric awning has a manual override and LED lights.

Chassis and build

• Chassis: fully galvanised, with the drawbar and suspension approved by an Australian engineer.
• Suspension: Series 4 recovery suspension with galvanised swing arms, twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
• Spare stub axle: bolts on to the recovery suspension.
• Wheels: 16 or 17 inch alloys with all-terrain tyres, plus one spare underneath.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
• Hitch: Alko, to suit a 50mm ball.
• Body: XPS high-density foam walls and a honeycomb floor.

Power

• Solar: 1,100 watts on the roof.
• Batteries: 628 amp hours of lithium batteries.
• Inverter: a 3,000 watt Renogy Rego with a 150 amp mains charger.
• Road charging: a 50 amp DC-DC charger.
• Solar charge controllers: 50 amp and 60 amp.
• Outlets: 240 volt and 12 volt power inside, plus USB and USB-C points.

Water and gas

• Fresh water: two tanks, about 200 litres in total.
• Grey water: one tank, about 70 litres.
• Hot water: a gas system, plumbed to all sinks and the shower.
• Connections: mains water and an external shower port.
• Gas: holders for two 4kg bottles (bottles not included).

Optional extras

• TV: a 12 volt smart TV.
• Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer.
• Annexe: enclosable, with floor, walls, skirt and anti-flapper kit.
• Hitch: a DO35 hitch.
• Toilet: a composting toilet.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 3,000kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 2,520kg, its empty weight.
• GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,784kg, the most its wheels can carry while hitched.
• Payload: 480kg for water, gas and gear. Full fresh water tanks use about 200kg of it.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 3,000kg. SUV Caravans lists these weights as approximate.

Warranty and where to buy

SUV Caravans covers new vans for 12 months from delivery against defects in material and workmanship. From 2025 onwards, the chassis also has a 5-year fatigue warranty.

SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. It recommends picking up from a dealership for a full handover, and freight delivery is available on request.
