Island 14HR

The SUV Caravans Island 14HR is a 6.2 metre off-road caravan for two, with a queen island bed and a separate shower and toilet. It carries 600 watts of solar and 270 amp hours of lithium batteries, and rates at an ATM (aggregate trailer mass) of 2,850kg.

Who does it sleep?

Two, on a queen island bed with an innerspring mattress. Bedside tables with storage drawers flank the bed, and a dining seat has a removable table.

Bathroom

• Toilet: a flush cartridge toilet in the internal ensuite.
• Shower: a separate shower cubicle.
• Storage: cupboards in the ensuite.
• Hot water: an integrated gas system, plumbed to all sinks and the shower.

Kitchen

SUV Caravans calls the swing-out kitchen and fridge slide its signature. The kitchen swings around 90 degrees and has a four-burner gas stove with a windguard. The fridge slide has pantry drawers and a stainless steel fold-down bench, and suits a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer. Inside, there is a mini fridge and a microwave.

Inside

Roof-mounted reverse-cycle air conditioning and 12 volt fans keep it cool. Storage runs to drawers, cupboards and hanging space. Privacy windows have midge-proof fly screens, and the lockable screen door has midge protection.

Chassis and running gear

• Chassis: fully galvanised, with an Australian engineer approved chassis, drawbar and suspension.
• Suspension: Series 4 recovery suspension with galvanised swing arms, twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
• Wheels: 16 or 17 inch alloy rims on all-terrain tyres, with a spare underneath.
• Hitch: an Alko hitch for a 50mm ball.
• Recovery: two rear recovery points and a spare bolt-on stub axle.
• Reversing: a reverse camera with its own screen.

Power and water

• Solar: 600 watts.
• Batteries: 270 amp hours of lithium batteries.
• Inverter: a 3000 watt Renogy inverter.
• Charging: a smart charger and a Renogy dual input DC-DC charger with a solar charge controller.
• Outlets: 240 volt and 12 volt points inside and out, plus USB ports.
• Water: about 180 litres fresh across two tanks, a 70 litre grey tank, and mains water connection.
• Gas: holders for two 4kg bottles.

What will tow it?

• ATM: 2,850kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 2,350kg, its empty weight.
• GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,649kg, the most it can put on its own wheels.
• Payload: 500kg for water, gas and gear. Full fresh water tanks use about 180kg of it.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 2,850kg. SUV Caravans lists these weights as approximate.

Warranty and where to buy

The warranty runs 12 months from delivery, covering defects in material and workmanship. A 5-year chassis fatigue warranty applies from 2025 onwards. Both cover new units only and are non-transferable. SUV Caravans sells through showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville, and recommends dealership pickup.
