About the Island 14SC
The Island 14SC is a 6.2 metre off-road caravan for two, with an island queen bed and a full ensuite. Cooking happens outside, on a gas kitchen that swings out 90 degrees. SUV Caravans aims it at couples who want to stay off the grid longer in a compact van.
Who does it sleep?
Two, in an island queen bed with an innerspring mattress. Bedside tables with drawers sit either side.
Inside
The ensuite has a flush cartridge toilet and a separate shower cubicle, with its own storage. Internal seating has a removable table, and storage runs to drawers, cupboards and hanging space. A mini fridge and a microwave sit inside. Roof-mounted reverse-cycle air conditioning and 12 volt fans handle the temperature. Windows have privacy glass and midge-proof fly screens, and the security screen door locks.
Outdoor kitchen
The swing-around kitchen has a four-burner gas stove with a wind guard. A fridge slide with pantry drawers and a stainless steel fold-down bench connects to it. The slide suits a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer. A full-length electric roll-out awning covers the area, with LED awning lights.
Chassis and running gear
- Chassis: fully galvanised, with galvanised suspension arms, approved by an Australian engineer.
- Suspension: SUV's Series 4 Recovery Suspension with twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
- Wheels: 17 inch alloys with 265/70R17 all-terrain tyres, and a spare underneath.
- Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
- Recovery: two rear recovery points and a spare bolt-on stub axle.
- Body: XPS high-density foam walls on a honeycomb floor.
- Hitch: an Alko hitch to suit a 50mm ball.
Power and water
- Batteries: 628 amp hours of lithium batteries.
- Solar: 600 watts on the roof.
- Inverter: a 3000 watt Renogy inverter, feeding 240 volt power points inside and out.
- Charging: a smart charger and a Renogy DC-DC charger with a built-in solar charge controller.
- Fresh water: two tanks, about 180 litres in total, plus a mains water connection.
- Grey water: a 70 litre tank, with fresh and grey water monitoring.
- Gas and hot water: holders for two 4kg gas bottles, and an integrated gas hot water system.

- Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer for the pantry slide.
- Annexe: an enclosable annexe with a floor, walls, skirt and anti-flapper kit.
- Hitch: a DO35 off-road hitch.

- Tare: 2,350kg, its empty weight as built.
- GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,649kg, the most its axles can carry when hitched.
- Payload: 500kg for water, gas and gear. Full water tanks use about 180kg of it.
To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 2,850kg. SUV Caravans lists its weights as approximate.

SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. It recommends collecting from a dealership, so you get a full handover. Freight delivery is available on request.
Warranty
- Whole van: 12 months from delivery, on defects in material and workmanship.
- Chassis: a 5-year fatigue warranty, on vans from 2025 onwards.
