Tardis PT

The SUV Caravans Tardis PT is a pop-top family caravan that sleeps four, 6.75 metres long closed and 7.4 metres open. Its roof lifts electrically, and inside are a queen bed, two bunks and separate shower and toilet rooms. The Tardis HR is the hard-roof version of this van.

Who does it sleep?

• Main bed: a queen.
• Top bunk: 800 x 2,000mm.
• Bottom bunk: 1,000 x 2,000mm.

SUV Caravans says the bunks give growing kids, or even adults, proper sleeping space.

Roof and inside

The electric lift roof has a double lid seal and an insulated roof sock. The ensuite has its own toilet room and shower room. An indoor kitchenette has an induction cooktop, a microwave and a sink. Reverse-cycle air conditioning sits on the roof, and the walls are XPS high-density foam.

Outdoor kitchen and camp

• Stove: a four-burner gas stove in the external kitchen.
• Fridge slide: with pantry drawers and cupboards.
• Awning: full-length, electric roll-out.
• Storage: external compartments, a generator slide, a pole box and a rear storage box.
• Rear receiver: for a bike rack or hitch.
• Shower: an external shower port.

Chassis and running gear

• Chassis: fully galvanised, with galvanised suspension arms.
• Engineering: locally engineered and certified chassis, drawbar and suspension, SUV Caravans says.
• Suspension: Series 4 independent, twin shocks and heavy-duty springs.
• Tyres: 16 inch all-terrain (265/75R16), with one spare.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric, with a breakaway system.
• Hitch: an Alko hitch for a 50mm ball.
• Extras fitted: a reverse camera, an electric fold-down step and two rear recovery points.

Power and water

Power comes from 750 watts of roof solar and 600 amp hours of lithium batteries, with a Renogy 3000 watt inverter. A Renogy dual-input 50 amp DC-DC charger with a 50 amp solar charge controller charges from the car and the panels. A 30 amp smart charger handles mains charging, and there are 12 volt and USB outlets inside and out. Two fresh tanks hold about 180 litres, and the grey tank about 70 litres, both monitored. Hot water is gas, from two gas bottle holders.

• Fridge: a 95 litre Trakmate fridge freezer.
• TV: a Smart TV with roof-mounted antenna.
• Fans: 12 volt oscillating fans.
• Spare: a rear spare tyre and mounting bracket.

• Jockey wheel: electric lift.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 3,000kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 2,595kg, its empty weight as built.
• GTM (gross trailer mass): 2,790kg, the most it can weigh on its axles.
• Payload: 405kg for water, gas and gear. Full fresh water tanks use about 180kg of it.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 3,000kg. SUV Caravans lists all its weights as approximate.

Warranty and where to buy

The warranty runs 12 months from delivery on defects in material and workmanship, for new units only. From 2025 onwards, SUV Caravans adds a 5-year chassis fatigue warranty. SUV Caravans sells the Tardis PT through showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. SUV Caravans recommends collecting it from the showroom for a handover, and it can freight a van on request.
