Caravan rego in Western Australia

For example, on WA's published rates, a 12-month renewal for a caravan with a 2,300kg tare (its empty weight) is $187.40, checked 29 October 2026.
WA charges $7.44 for every 100kg of tare, so a heavier van pays more.

How the 2,300kg example is made up

  • $171.12 for 2,300kg at $7.44 per 100kg. WA rounds the tare up to the next 100kg.
  • $6.60 prescribed fee. The $13.20 fee is halved on a standard renewal, which this figure assumes.
  • $9.70 administration recording fee.
  • The department rounds the total to the nearest five cents.

What else WA's page says

  • The $7.44 rate is for a caravan of the trailer type. A motor-propelled caravan has its own, higher rate on the same page.
  • Caravans that are not motor propelled are exempt from vehicle licence duty, the page says.

These are the figures the authority publishes, checked on 29 October 2026.
They are not a quote, and they are not advice about what you have to pay.
Schedules usually change on 1 July, concessions and short-term periods vary, and your authority is the one that decides.

Where the figures come from

The rates are published for the 2026/2027 financial year, on a page last updated 2 September 2026. We last checked every figure on this page against it on 29 October 2026.

We don't collect rego. You pay it to the state or territory's transport authority.

Check your van's weight

A public weighbridge gives you a ticket with the van's weight on it.
