About the Explorer
The Marlin Explorer is a side-folding canvas camper trailer for families of four or more, built on a 7 by 4 foot trailer. It weighs from 500kg empty and carries Marlin's larger six-person tent, with a queen-size bed and a tailgate kitchen.
The tent
- Setup: Marlin says one person can set it up in under two minutes.
- Design: a split-level, side-folding tent with two doors into the sleeping and living areas.
- Extras over the Escape: a thicker mattress, and a privacy wall with flyscreen.
- Windows: oversized, each with an inner and an outer flap to keep rain out and the cabin dark in the morning.
- Canvas: SatProof ripstop canvas walls and a silver-impregnated canvas roof.
- Roof lining: an Insulcell triple-layer insulated roof, with a rolled edge to keep driving rain out.
- Floor and insects: a heavyweight PVC vinyl floor, and fine No-See-Um mesh on every door and window.
Kitchen, power and water
- Kitchen: a tailgate kitchen with a cutlery drawer, a sink with a hand pump, room for a two or three-burner stove and under-bench storage.
- Water: a 60 litre tank with a hand pump and a lockable filler cap.
- Power: a 22.5 amp hour lithium power pack with a 330 watt inverter.
Storage and access
- Load space: apart from the kitchen, the trailer body is empty and ready to load with camping gear.
- Access: through the rear door, or a side door that opens with the tent packed or set up.
- Drawbar: an aluminium toolbox with a gas-strut lid, a vertical spare wheel holder and a PVC pole carrier.
- Extras: jerry can and gas bottle holders are standard.
Trims
- Standard: the kitchen, water tank and power pack above, a queen bed and 185R14 light truck tyres.
- Deluxe kitchen and hot water: a deluxe tailgate kitchen and a hot water system with a shower.
- Deluxe power: a 45 amp hour lithium battery with a 500 watt inverter, and 12 volt outlets inside and out.
- Deluxe finish: a marine-carpet trailer floor and a spare wheel cover.
- Ultimate trailer: the extreme off-road trailer, an off-road hitch, a rear recovery point, a stone guard and a dust-sealed tailgate.
- Ultimate power: 100 amp hours of lithium with a 1,200 watt inverter, and a 100 watt solar panel.
- Ultimate carrying: tie-down rails, and two jerry can and two gas bottle holders.
Trailer and chassis
- Trailer choice: on-road, off-road or extreme off-road.
- Chassis: Australian-milled 40mm angle steel on road, or 50mm RHS steel on the off-road trailers.
- Axle: a 39mm solid round axle on road, 40mm square off-road, or 45mm square extreme off-road.
- Springs: five-leaf slipper springs on road, five-leaf eye-to-eye off-road, or seven-leaf eye-to-eye rebound springs extreme off-road.
- Coupling: a 50mm ball rated to 2,000kg, or an off-road ball coupling rated to 3,000kg on the extreme off-road trailer.
Body and warranty
- Body: fully seam-welded between the corner pillars, with a checker plate floor and wheel guards.
- Tailgate: swing-out, on twin heavy-duty hinges, with lockable latches and dust sealing.
- Rear: a swing-down AL-KO stabiliser leg.
- Warranty: two years from the date you collect it.
