About the Discovery Pop Top
The Jayco Discovery Pop Top is a pop-top caravan in five floor plans of 16 and 17 feet, each in Touring or Outback trim. Most plans sleep two adults plus two more, and the 17ft-3 adds bunks for two children. A 300 amp hour lithium battery, two 260 watt solar panels and a reverse-cycle air conditioner are standard.
Who does it sleep?
- 16ft-4 and 16ft-5: two adults plus two more.
- 17ft-3: two adults, two children in bunks and two more.
- 17ft-8 and 17ft-9: two adults plus two more.
The main bed has a Slumberrest Premium Cloud 9 pillowtop mattress. With the roof raised there is 2.12 metres of headroom inside.
Kitchen and bathroom
The kitchen has a four-burner cooktop with a griller, a microwave, a rangehood and a 12 volt fridge. An oven is an option. The sink has a water filter, and hot water is on-demand gas. The bathroom has a shower with an exhaust fan.
Touring or Outback
The Touring trim rides on an underslung axle with leaf springs. The 16 foot Touring plans have one axle, and the 17 foot Touring plans have two. The Outback trim adds:
- Suspension: JTECH 2.0 independent coil suspension.
- Wheels: 15 inch alloys with all-terrain tyres and a spare.
- Protection: side checkerplate.
- Extras: a grey water tank, a pull-out step, a 12 volt socket and an Anderson solar input.
- Braking: Tow Secure emergency braking.
Power
- Battery: a 300 amp hour lithium battery.
- Solar: two 260 watt twin-cell panels.
- Charging: a 35 amp mains charger, a 30 amp DC-DC charger for charging from the car, and solar charging with Bluetooth monitoring.
- Control: a 7-inch touch screen shows the battery and water levels.
- Internet: ready for a Starlink Mini, with a 100 watt socket and a waterproof 12 volt lead.
The Power Pack option adds a 420 amp hour battery, a 3,000 watt inverter, a 60 amp charger and a third solar panel.
Water and gas
- Fresh water: two 80 litre tanks, 160 litres in total.
- Gas: two 9kg bottles, with a gas bayonet for cooking outside.
Build
The chassis is hot dipped galvanised, with an extended A-frame and a powered 12 volt A-frame jack. The walls use insulated fibreglass on Jayco's Toughframe, which Jayco describes as hail and dent resistant. The roof is a one-piece hail-resistant skin with insulation, and the tent section is one-piece heavy-duty vinyl. Electric brakes, Sway Command stability control and a wireless reversing camera are standard.
Optional extras
- Roof: a 12 volt electric lift, which raises and lowers the roof at the push of a button.
- Outdoors: awning walls, a hot and cold outdoor shower, and a bike rack.
- Inside: fabric or leather seating, and a dual reversing camera.

- 16ft-4: 6.73 metres long for travel, tare 1,719kg, towball 189kg.
- 16ft-5: 6.71 metres long, tare 1,679kg, towball 185kg.
- 17ft-3: 7.13 metres long, tare 1,862kg, towball 135kg.
- 17ft-8: 7.10 metres long, tare 1,835kg, towball 152kg.
- 17ft-9: 7.10 metres long, tare 1,877kg, towball 153kg.
Outback trim:
- 16ft-4: 6.85 metres long, tare 1,809kg, towball 191kg.
- 16ft-5: 6.85 metres long, tare 1,814kg, towball 201kg.
- 17ft-3: 7.22 metres long, tare 2,069kg, towball 147kg.
- 17ft-8: 7.22 metres long, tare 2,041kg, towball 159kg.
- 17ft-9: 7.22 metres long, tare 2,046kg, towball 156kg.
What will tow it?
Tare is the van's empty weight as built. Towball weight is how much of the van presses down on your car's towbar. Jayco says its weights are a guide and change with the accessories fitted. Ask the dealer for the ATM (aggregate trailer mass) of the exact van on your quote. Your car's braked towing capacity needs to cover that figure.
Warranty and where to buy
Jayco builds its vans in Australia. The warranty is two years on manufacturing and five years on the structure. You buy through a Jayco dealer. Jayco's online Build and Price tool shows the price as you choose a layout and options. The original owner of a new Jayco gets Jayco Assist, a 24/7 support program.
