Winton 17F Twin MK2

The Winton 17F Twin MK2 is a hard-top on-road caravan that sleeps two on a queen island bed. It suits a couple touring sealed roads who want an ensuite with a separate shower and toilet.

It has a tare from 1,885kg and a 2,500kg ATM (aggregate trailer mass), which leaves about 615kg for water, gas and gear. Filling both fresh tanks uses 200kg of it, so weigh the van loaded. Ball weight is 215kg, and you need a car rated to tow 2,500kg braked.

The queen island bed measures 2,000mm by 1,530mm and lifts for storage underneath. The kitchen wraps around one corner, with a dual induction cooktop, a bamboo cutting board over the sink and a Dometic 153L upright fridge-freezer. A gas system heats the water on demand. A lounge with an adjustable dining table faces the kitchen.

The electrical system runs at 12 volts. Ezytrail fits a 235Ah lithium battery, a 340W antishading solar array and a 50A AC, DC and MPPT charger. A touchscreen manages the system, and the battery sits in a through-floor enclosure.

Water is a 120L and an 80L fresh tank plus an 80L grey tank, so you carry 200 litres of drinking water. A CAM-LOK quick connect empties the grey tank. A MyCoolman CCA2700i air conditioner and a 24 inch smart TV are standard.

Ezytrail builds the walls and roof from one-piece XPS sandwich panel with fibreglass skins, over a 50mm PET sandwich panel floor. The chassis and drawbar use galvanised RHS steel, which the maker certifies F3 and warrants for five years. It rides on 2.5 tonne independent torsion suspension with shock absorbers, 12 inch electric brakes and 235/75 R15 all-terrain tyres. The spare wheel mounts under the chassis rather than on the bumper.

The van measures 6.6m long, 2.45m wide and 2.89m tall on the road. A roll-out awning, an outdoor table, dual gas connections, a reversing camera and illuminated external storage come with it.

Ezytrail keeps eleven showrooms of its own and hands the van over at the one you pick. A flat $1,000 freight fee covers transport to it, and the from-price excludes dealer delivery and on-road costs. The structural warranty runs 12 months from the first owner.
