About the GR18.6SC / SC AIR
The SUV Caravans GR18.6 SC is a 7.6 metre couples' caravan on SUV's Step-Chassis, sleeping two to three. It uses the same Step-Chassis as the GR17.6 SC on a longer body, with Airbag Man or coil suspension. SUV Caravans says it built the van for couples who want an off-road touring caravan.
Who does it sleep?
The main bed is a queen island bed with an innerspring mattress. SUV Caravans rates it at two to three berths and lists it for couples.
Inside
The kitchenette has an induction cooktop, a sink, a microwave and a rangehood. A 157 litre upright fridge freezer sits inside. The ensuite has separate toilet and shower rooms and a wall-mounted washing machine. Air conditioning is roof-mounted, with 12 volt fans and SUV's roof airflow duct system. Seating has a removable table, and there are bedside drawers, cupboards and hanging space.
Outdoor kitchen
- Stove: four burners on gas, with a windguard, on a kitchen that swings around 90 degrees.
- Fridge: a fridge drawer, plus a pantry slide sized for a 95 litre Trakmate (fridge not included).
- Awning: full-length and electric, with LED lights.
Chassis and running gear
- Step-Chassis: SUV's own design, listed as patent pending.
- Suspension: Series 4 recovery suspension with galvanised swing arms, Airbag Man or coil.
- Chassis: fully galvanised, approved by an Australian engineer along with the drawbar.
- Hitch: a DO35 hitch is standard.
- Wheels: 17 inch alloys with all-terrain tyres, plus a spare underneath.
- Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes with a breakaway system.
- Spare stub axle: bolts on to the recovery suspension.
Power and water
- Solar: panels on the roof.
- Batteries: 628 amp hours of lithium batteries.
- Inverter: a 3,000 watt Renogy Rego with a 150 amp mains charger.
- Road charging: a 50 amp DC-DC charger, with 50 and 60 amp solar charge controllers.
- Fresh water: two tanks, about 200 litres in total, plus a 70 litre grey tank.
- Hot water: gas, plumbed to all sinks and the shower.
- Gas: holders for two 4kg bottles (bottles not included).

What will tow it?
- ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 3,500kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
- Tare: 2,950kg, its empty weight.
- GTM (gross trailer mass): 3,250kg, the most its wheels can carry while hitched.
- Payload: 550kg for water, gas and gear. Full fresh water tanks use about 200kg of it.
To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 3,500kg. SUV Caravans lists these weights as approximate.
Warranty and where to buy
SUV Caravans covers new vans for 12 months from delivery against defects in material and workmanship. From 2025 onwards, the chassis also has a 5-year fatigue warranty.
SUV Caravans has showrooms in Caboolture, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton and Townsville. It recommends picking up from a dealership for a full handover, and freight delivery is available on request.
