Expanda Pop Top

The Jayco Expanda Pop Top is a 17 foot family pop-top that sleeps up to eight, with a tare of 2,117kg. Slide-out beds, bunks and a dinette that converts give it room for four adults, two children and two more. It comes in one floor plan, in Jayco's Outback trim, with independent coil suspension.

Beds and living

The main beds have Slumberrest innerspring mattresses, and the bunks have high-density foam mattresses with child restraints. The bed ends are double-stitched heavy-duty canvas, and the tent section is one-piece heavy-duty vinyl. With the roof raised there is 2.12 metres of headroom inside. A reverse-cycle roof air conditioner and a 24-inch smart TV with a soundbar are standard.

Kitchen and bathroom

The kitchen has a four-burner cooktop with a griller, a microwave, a rangehood and a 150 litre 12 volt fridge-freezer. The bathroom has a shower with an exhaust fan. Hot water is on-demand gas.

Power

• Battery: a 300 amp hour lithium battery.
• Solar: two 260 watt twin-cell panels, plus an Anderson plug on the offside for solar input.
• Charging: a 35 amp mains charger, a 30 amp DC-DC charger for charging from the car, and solar charging with Bluetooth monitoring.
• Control: a 7-inch touch screen shows the battery and water levels.
• Internet: ready for a Starlink Mini, with a 100 watt socket and a waterproof 12 volt lead.

Water and gas

• Fresh water: two 80 litre tanks, 160 litres in total. A third 80 litre tank is an option.
• Grey water: a grey water tank is standard.
• Gas: two 9kg bottles, with a gas bayonet for cooking outside.

Build and towing gear

• Suspension: JTECH 2.0 independent coil suspension.
• Chassis: hot dipped galvanised, with an extended A-frame and a powered 12 volt A-frame jack.
• Wheels: 15 inch alloys with all-terrain tyres and a spare.
• Body: a fibreglass body with moulded front and rear panels and side protection film.
• Roof: a one-piece hail-resistant skin with insulation.
• Storage: a tunnel boot with access from both sides.
• Safety: electric brakes, Sway Command stability control, Tow Secure emergency braking and a wireless reversing camera.

Optional extras

• Seating: L-shaped seating in place of the cafe dinette, or a dinette bed converter.
• Storage inside: a buffet and overhead cupboards in place of the tri-fold bunk and dinette.
• Kitchen: an oven, and a slide-out outdoor kitchen with a two-burner cooktop and sink.
• Outdoors: awning walls, bed-end storm covers and a hot and cold outdoor shower.
• Towing: a Cruisemaster DO35 coupling and a dual reversing camera.
• Tunnel boot: a slide-out tray or tub.

What will tow it?

Tare is the van's empty weight as built. Towball weight is how much of the van presses down on your car's towbar. Jayco says its weights are a guide and change with the accessories fitted. Ask the dealer for the ATM (aggregate trailer mass) of the exact van on your quote. Your car's braked towing capacity needs to cover that figure.

Warranty and where to buy

Jayco builds its vans in Australia. The warranty is two years on manufacturing and five years on the structure. You buy through a Jayco dealer. Jayco's online Build and Price tool shows the price as you choose a layout and options. The original owner of a new Jayco gets Jayco Assist, a 24/7 support program.
