Royal X 22'

The Royal X is a 22ft tandem-axle van entered through a mid door. It suits a family who want the fridge nearer the middle of the kitchen run.

Tare is 2,610kg and Highclere quotes ATM at 3.5 to 3.7 tonnes, a range that spans the three build tiers. Ball weight is 240kg. Weights match the plain Royal exactly, tare and ATM both. Ask your dealer which tier a quoted weight or price describes.

The front island queen carries a 6ft 2in pillow top mattress. Inside, the same rear bunks, lounge and ensuite as the Royal, built around a centre fridge instead. A full-height fibreglass shower, cassette toilet and 3.5kg top-loading washer sit in the rear ensuite.

Dynasty fits a gas and electric mini grill oven with a pot drawer. Carnarvon and Grand Explorer XT both fit a full oven instead. Every tier runs reverse cycle air conditioning. The centre-mounted fridge runs 188 litres on the first two tiers and 224 litres on Grand Explorer XT.

Dynasty runs one 100Ah AGM battery and 210W of solar. Carnarvon steps up to two 120Ah AGM batteries, 420W of solar and BMPro monitoring. Grand Explorer XT switches to lithium: two 150Ah cells, 630W of solar and a Victron 3000W inverter.

Two 95 litre fresh tanks come standard. Carnarvon adds a separate 100 litre grey tank. The hot water system uses gas and electric.

Highclere builds the chassis from Australian Supagal steel on a 6 inch main frame. Dynasty runs semi off-road suspension; Carnarvon steps up to full off-road. Grand Explorer XT adds its own truss chassis and air bag suspension for tandem axles. Dynasty uses ribbed aluminium sides under a one-piece fibre roof. Carnarvon and Grand Explorer XT both move to composite aluminium sides and a composite roof.
