Parkes 16R 3 Bunk MK4

The Parkes 16R 3 Bunk MK4 is a pop-top off-road hybrid that sleeps five on a 16 foot body. It suits a family with three children who want a low travelling height and an internal ensuite.

It has a 2,420kg tare and a 3,000kg ATM (aggregate trailer mass), which leaves 580kg for water, gas and gear. Ball weight is 241kg, the heaviest in this batch, so check your car's towball limit as well as its tow rating. You need a car rated to tow 3,000kg braked.

The king master bed measures 2,000mm by 1,830mm. Three full-length bunks run 1,950mm by 850mm each. An L-shaped folding sofa and a gas-lift table make the central living area. The ensuite is self-contained and has a zip-out wall extension for more room. The kitchen has a dual induction cooktop, a sink and a 130L fridge-freezer.

The electrical system runs at 24 volts. Ezytrail fits a 1,190W solar array, two 24V 235Ah lithium batteries and a Victron Multiplus-2 3,000VA inverter. The bank holds 12kWh, the equivalent of 940Ah at 12 volts. A Wegic 7 inch touchscreen reads the system.

Two 120L tanks carry the fresh water and an 80L tank holds the grey, so 240 litres travel with you. Hot water is instantaneous gas. A MyCoolman CCA3000 air conditioner, a 2kW diesel heater and several interior fans cover both ends of the year.

The electric pop-top raises at the press of a button and keeps travelling height to 2.77m. The chassis is one-piece hot-dip galvanised steel with an extended gooseneck drawbar, F5 certified and warranted for life. It rides on Ezyrider V3 coil independent suspension with an anti-roll bar and four Pedders Big Bore shocks. Bigfoot V3 12 inch brakes and 16 inch alloys on off-road tyres complete the running gear. The van measures 7.32m long and 2.4m wide.

Outside, a slide-out kitchen, a heavy-duty electric awning, an enclosed EzyLight awning room and a rear utility box carry the gear. Ezytrail covers the structure for 12 months from first ownership.
