Odyssey 40I

The Winnebago Odyssey 40I is a motorhome on an Iveco Daily cab chassis, 7.8 metres long, that sleeps up to four adults. It has a rear bedroom with a queen island bed, a separate shower and toilet, and a privacy door. A second bed sits over the cab, and the cab seats swivel to join the lounge.

Who does it sleep?

• Main bed: a queen island bed in the rear bedroom, with a gel-infused mattress.
• Second bed: an east-west Luton bed over the cab.
• Child seats: it has child restraint anchor points.

Driving

• Base vehicle: an Iveco Daily cab chassis.
• Engine: a 3 litre four-cylinder turbo diesel, 134 kilowatts (180 horsepower).
• Gearbox: an eight-speed automatic.
• Fuel: a 100 litre tank, plus a 20 litre AdBlue tank.
• Reversing: a reversing camera with an interior display.

Inside

The lounge and dinette have swivel cab seats that extend the living space. The kitchen has a cooktop with a grill and oven, a 23 litre microwave and a 188 litre fridge-freezer. The sink has a hinged glass cover, and a water filter feeds the kitchen tap. It also has a 3kg washer-dryer and two 28 inch smart TVs. Winnebago's own control panel monitors power and water.

Bathroom

• Shower: fully enclosed, with a curved door.
• Toilet: an 18 litre swivel cassette with an electric flush.
• Vanity: a countertop basin and a mirrored cabinet.

Power and water

• Water: a 185 litre fresh tank and a 185 litre grey tank, plus a pressurised town water connection.
• Battery: a 300 amp hour lithium house battery, run by a Renogy power management system.
• Solar: two 200 watt panels.
• Gas: two 9kg gas bottles.
• Hot water: a 14 litre gas and 240 volt water heater.
• Air conditioning: a 2.4 kilowatt reverse cycle unit on the roof.
• Awning: a 5.2 metre manual Thule awning.

Build and warranty

• Body: single-piece structural composite panels in the roof, walls and floor, with a custom-moulded fibreglass nose.
• Windows: double glazed, with block-out blinds and insect flyscreens.
• Warranty: a 7-year structural guarantee and a 3-year body and interior warranty, plus roadside assistance in line with the vehicle's own warranty.

Weights and licence

• GVM (gross vehicle mass): 5,200kg, the most it can weigh on the road, fully loaded.
• Payload: 1,205kg for people, water, gas and gear. Full fresh tanks use about 185kg of it.
• Headroom: 2.07 metres inside.

Winnebago says you can usually drive a motorhome up to 4,495kg on a standard Australian car licence. At 5,200kg GVM, the Odyssey 40I is above that, and Winnebago says a Light Rigid (LR) licence may be required.
