Commander S2

The Platinum Commander S2 is an off-road hybrid pop-top with an automatic roof, a queen bed and double bunks. It sleeps two adults and two children, and the lounge folds down into a second bunk. Its tare is 2,100kg, and Platinum built it for Cape York tracks.

Body and chassis

• Body: an aluminium frame with composite walls and checkerplate, on a galvanised chassis.
• Drawbar: 120 x 50 x 4mm RHS, with an ARK off-road hitch rated to 3,500kg.
• Suspension: Dobinsons dual independent suspension, which Platinum says is Australian made, with twin shocks.
• Brakes: 12 inch electric brakes and an adjustable handbrake.

Inside

• Beds: a queen innerspring bed and double bunks with king single memory foam mattresses.
• Lounge: folds down into a second bunk bed.
• Entertainment: a 24 inch TV, a Bluetooth stereo and dual outdoor speakers.
• Windows: four large windows with privacy and insect screens.
• Climate: reverse cycle air conditioning.

Kitchen

A four-burner gas stove has a large wok burner. The fridge slide is 1.1 metres long, and the fridge is optional. The pantry opens from both sides.

Power and water

• Batteries: three 100 amp hour AGM deep cycle batteries, with lithium as an option.
• Charging: a 25 amp 240 volt charger and a 240 volt inlet with power points.
• Inverter: optional.
• Water: two 135 litre stainless steel tanks, 270 litres in total, with a locked inlet.
• Hot water: a Smarttek Lite system, plumbed to an external hot shower.

Outside

An electric wind-out awning runs on a remote control. Gas plumbing is completed in Australia to Australian standards.

What will tow it?

• ATM (aggregate trailer mass): 2,900kg, the most it can weigh fully loaded.
• Tare: 2,100kg, its empty weight as built.
• Payload: 800kg for water, gas and gear. A full 270 litre water tank uses about 270kg of it.

To tow it fully loaded, your vehicle needs a braked towing capacity of at least 2,900kg.

Warranty

• Structure: 5 years.
• Canvas: 2 years, including annexes.
• Components: 12 months on electrical components and fittings.

Platinum's terms say the warranty covers the original buyer and does not pass to a later owner.

Platinum sells from its Brisbane showroom in Salisbury, and through Titanium Trailers showrooms in Townsville and Rockhampton. It delivers Australia-wide, with pickup depots in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Mackay, Perth and Adelaide. The price is for collection in Brisbane, before delivery and registration costs.
